Success Story:

Success StoryClosing Doors Led 360 Church to the Primrose Path

"When we decided to participate in Faith in Action, we prayed about our projects," said Michelle Brightman, assistant to Pastor Chip Kelly of 360 Church in Orlando, Florida. "But the doors just kept closing, project after project.

"Finally we remembered a couple of ladies who had attended our church earlier, but because of their work at Primrose Center, hadn’t been able to join us lately. We called them and – boy, did they have needs!"...Read More

Service Project Idea:

Conduct a toiletries drive for a service organization in your area.

Connect with a shelter, mission or youth organization in your area that is in need of toiletries and other supplies. Get a list of needed items and coordinate with local grocery and drug stores to request items from customers as they enter. Share information about the organization and their needs with patrons, and deliver the materials directly to the nonprofit in your area.

Your toiletries drive will offer direct support to those who are homeless, or otherwise in need of basic hygiene and care products. This activity will strengthen relationships in your church, as well as in your community, and will advocate for the support of needy nonprofit organizations that serve those in poverty.

Establish a single point of contact or manager at each store where you conduct your drive. Prior to your event create posters or half-sheet handouts that list the organization you are supporting, as well as the specific toiletry items that you are collecting. If you need help finding a shelter to receive donations, search the directory at www.agrm.org

Organization Spotlight:

World Vision

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
World Vision offers several ways for your church to put its Faith in Action. Your congregation can get involved in serving the poor globally as well as locally, through a variety of different programs with World Vision. Here are just a few examples of how you can serve:

  • AIDS Caregiver Kits. Volunteers in churches and community organizations can raise funds, purchase supplies and assemble kits to assist AIDS Caregivers. These kits are shipped to local volunteers serving in AIDS-affected communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
  • Night of Nets. Through the Night of Nets, you'll be part of a movement to end malaria by organizing an event to raise awareness and, when possible, inviting participants to sleep the entire night under a bed net. By raising funds to provide nets for children in need and calling on our elected leaders to take action, we'll help stop this child killer in our lifetime.
  • 30 Hour Famine. Fast for 30 hours and raise funds for food-related programs around the globe. A great event for youth groups or your entire church. Every $30 raised will help provide food and basic care for a child for one month.

"To fulfill our purpose to love the broken world, we need to see the brokenness of the world with the yes of love . We need to be willing to share our own brokenness. We need to allow God's love to show us people's hopelessness as Jesus sees it. "
--Miles McPherson, in his new book, DO Something!
